The Qtrax P2P player is well and dead. The well-hyped pre-launch of Qtrax stopped short in it’s tracks, with all four music labels releasing statements that reinforced the rumors that Qtrax had no licensing deal and that all of the expectation that Qtrax had hoped to fulfill did not exist.

Qtrax was to be the world’s first media player, P2P application and web browser that allowed people to download music files completely legally. The Qtrax application, powered by Songbird, would have used the Gnutella network’s files by digitally signing them with DRM while the end-user downloaded the file.

The user would have browsed all their files through the music.qtrax.com subdomain, but for over 48 hours the page has been replaced from its sleek Apple look to the installation page for Oracle 10g.

Such a shame, Qtrax, such a shame.
